ASCHAM HOUSE DESIGNS

–  BY TOM MEYER

I have been designing and making things all my life. Only recently, with the children growing up and managing my work better, I have been in a position to apply more time to my designs.

I started with wood work and design at school but never finished much as I became impatient and wanted to move on to other projects. Making lamps by gluing different types of wood together and turning, was the most popular choice at school. So I decided to make a wheelbarrow but sadly over time it fell apart.

On leaving education I was not sure what to do so between temporary work, in my spare time, I hand-painted a few cigar boxes, which I gave away as gifts. I applied for, and was accepted on to, a cabinet making and design course at the London College of Furniture. But, as I was unable to fund it, went to work in property sales.

Over time my designs have developed from painted cigar boxes, to hand-painted backgammon boards, small interior design projects, furniture, lights etc, many of which you can see in my gallery. And so it goes on.
